Zebu

The zebu is a breed of domestic cow from Asia. Domesticated since 3000 B.C., the zebu is one of the smallest breeds of cow in the world. They have a large hump on their shoulders, are usually gray or red in color, and also have horns and loose skin. Many zebu also have floppy, droopy ears. Zebu are used as draft animals and are farmed as both dairy and beef cattle. Zebu cattle are resistant to high temperatures and other unfavorable conditions, allowing them to live in many different areas of the world today.

Did you know...four breeds of zebu were used to create the American Brahman in the late 1800s.
