Miniature Donkey
Miniature donkeys, also called the Mediterranean or Sicilian donkey (burro), hail from the islands of Sicily and Sardinia on the Mediterranean. Unlike many other miniature breeds, the miniature donkey is not a bred-down version of a larger donkey. Their small size is natural. Miniature donkeys are no more than 36 inches tall at the withers. (For comparison, standard donkeys range from 36 to 48 inches tall.)
The breed is friendly, intelligent, and fun-loving, but not the quietest of animals. They form close attachments to their owners and to other donkeys, making them great companions and life-long pets. They are typically light gray-brown color with white muzzle or nose and have a stripe down their back and across their shoulders forming the shape of a cross.
Did you know...all donkeys, regardless of breed, have a cross marking on their backs due to genetics, although it may be less noticeable and even obscure on some breeds.
