Eland
The eland is the world's largest and most docile of all African antelopes. In a habitat of predators, the eland's coat is its greatest weapon, camouflaging the animal in tall, drying grass especially when standing dead still Usually fawn or tawny-colored, their coat turns gray or bluish-gray as they get older; the oldest animals become almost black. Both males and females have horns that spiral tightly, though female horns tend to be longer and thinner. It has the endurance to maintain a trot indefinitely. What it lacks in speed of flight it makes up for with an incredible leap, able to jump a four-foot fence from a standstill.
Did you know...most eland conflicts are settled without violence through a series of ritual signals These signals include the bizarre knee-clicks that the bulls make with their front legs while walking. They sound like castanets and can be heard hundreds of meters away.
